What It Means to Be a Biblical Church

At Donvale Presbyterian Church, we are a biblical church—meaning that the Bible is our ultimate guide in knowing who God is and how we are to live in light of that knowledge. We believe that the Bible is inerrant (without error) and inspired (God-breathed). It is not just an ancient book but a living and active Word that speaks to us today, shaping both our faith and our daily practice.

The Bible: Our Authority for Life and Faith

We hold that the Bible is the final authority in all areas of life. As 2 Timothy 3:16–17 says, "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work." Every part of Scripture is inspired by God, and it is fully trustworthy in guiding our beliefs and actions.

Understanding Who God Is Through the Bible

The Bible is God's revelation of Himself to us. It shows us His character—His holiness, love, justice, and mercy. Through Scripture, we learn about God's plan of salvation and His desire for a relationship with us. Jesus Himself pointed to the Scriptures as revealing God's truth (John 5:39). The more we read the Bible, the more we understand God's nature and His will for our lives.

Living in Light of God's Word

The Bible is not just for knowledge—it's a guide for how we live. As Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." We believe that God's Word provides the principles we need to navigate every area of life—whether in our relationships, work, or decision-making. It teaches us how to love God and others, live with integrity, and pursue holiness.

Personal Devotions & Expository Preaching

We encourage everyone to engage with the Bible personally through daily devotions. Spending time in Scripture allows us to grow in our knowledge of God and apply His truth to our lives. At Donvale Presbyterian, we prioritize expository preaching, where the Bible is explained and applied verse by verse, helping us understand the full counsel of God.

Through both personal study and faithful preaching, we cover the breadth of Scripture, ensuring that the message of the Bible shapes every part of our lives and points us to Jesus Christ.

Scripture Points to Jesus

Scripture is not merely a collection of ancient writings—it is the living and active Word of God (Hebrews 4:12). Through the Holy Spirit, God's Word works powerfully in our hearts to convict us of sin, encourage us in faith, and transform us into Christ's likeness.

At the very heart of all Scripture stands Jesus Christ. From the first promise in Genesis to the final vision in Revelation, the entire Bible unfolds God's redemptive plan through His Son. As Jesus told the religious leaders of His day, "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me" (John 5:39).

Every page of Scripture ultimately points to Jesus—His perfect life, His sacrificial death for our sins, and His victorious resurrection. He is both the foundation of our faith and the source of our eternal hope.
