Discerning our next pastoral steps together
As our church continues to grow and mature, we want to think carefully and prayerfully about how we can best shepherd God's people and support the mission He has given us. This is not primarily a question about expansion, but about faithful pastoral care and wise stewardship.
Following Gerald's departure, there remains an open pastoral position within the life of our church. This provides an opportunity for us to consider whether and how the Lord may be leading us to strengthen pastoral ministry for the future.
Healthy churches recognise that shepherding requires time, presence, and relational care. Many pastoral resources suggest that sustainable ministry often functions best at approximately:
Is this a genuine need? Would an additional pastor help us better achieve our mission and care for our people?
We prayerfully seek the Lord's wisdom, trusting that Christ builds His church and guides His people in His time and according to His purposes.
Do we currently have the resources to pursue this? Financially, spiritually, and practically — is the Lord opening the way?
If the need is clear but resources are not yet present, we continue to pray — asking God to provide what is needed in His timing. We wait on the Lord, not on circumstance alone.
One possible model for consideration — should the Lord lead us toward an additional pastoral appointment — could take the following shape:
Such a role could serve as a ministry incubator — equipping a pastor to grow in preaching, shepherding, and leadership before potentially moving into church revitalisation or church planting.
Our goal is not simply to add staff, but to help the congregation know Christ, grow as Christians, and go bring Christ to the world
